I first met Ray Bowen in
Decatur at Mac McGee’s National Scotch Whiskey Day celebration. I blogged briefly about his trade and full time kilt wearing with a photograph of him smoking outside of McGee’s Irish Pub in early August. Later on that month, Ray mentioned he would be repairing the cast iron fencing around the crypt of Miss Emily Pittman in the historical
Decatur Cemetery. He thought I’d be interested in photographing the process, and I was!
Ray’s shop
Invictus Forge is located on Zonolite Place in Midtown Atlanta. Zonolite is an eccentric business district, including a salon, film production company, graphic studios, and even a Zen center across the street from
Quickshot Shooting Range. The range serves cookies and coffee to its patrons and has almost more of an art studio vibe than a shooting range. Perhaps that is because they recently hosted Nancy Floyd’s
“She’s Got a Gun” exhibit. How did I miss that? Anways, I digress.
Ray is a true gentleman possessing a real gift for the gab. He made me feel right at home in his shop. I spent a few hours talking over a few Laophroig Scotch Whiskey’s about music, art, whisky, women and his allegiance to rocking a kilt in his daily life. Cheers to ya Ray! You're a classic gent!
